Using an AED

Use an AEDHow to Use an AED

Now I’ve got the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) unit, how do I make it work?

Answer –

Anyone can use an AED, but knowing what to expect when you grab it from its station helps.

First unpack the kit, it will have  shears to cut clothing, a cloth to wipe off sweat and a razor to remove body hair from the area the pads will go.

Then open the lid follow and the instructions, some units switch on automatically once the lid is removed, but you may have to press a button to switch the unit on.

If you have a helper you must continue CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), while they unpack and open the device

A voice will talk you through the process of attaching the pads and preparing the casualty for analysis and shocking if required.
